The Final Conference will present the achievements of SouthMed CV and 38 sub-granted projects that have enhanced the idea that culture can have a social and economic impact in the Southern Mediterranean, thus contributing to the sustainable human development of the region. The event will also include the presentation of the printed book ‘MAHATTAT’ which gives an account of the cultural dynamics that animated the southern shore of the Mediterranean from 2015 to 2018 through the prism of SouthMed CV.
The Final Conference will consist of a closed session and an open event. The opening of the closed session will count with the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Wijdan bint Fawwaz Al Hashemi of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and representatives of BOZAR, Interarts, and the EU, co-funder of the SouthMed CV within the framework of the regional programme Med Culture.
Oussama Rifahi – Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (Lebanon) – and Ferdinand Richard – Roberto Cimetta Fund (France) – will be the key speakers of this part of the Conference which will bring together the SouthMed CV consortium, representatives of the European Commission and of the diplomatic corps in Belgium, alongside experts and cultural operators from Europe, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon and Palestine.
During the open event, addressed to the general public in Brussels, SouthMed CV sub-grantees will present their experiences on how culture has been a key element for raising awareness on human rights issues, re-thinking the processes of urban planning, creating civic engagement platforms for young people, contributing to the economic development through the professionalisation of cultural operators, as well as promoting South-South cooperation.
Mercedes Giovinazzo, Interarts Director, and Fatin Farhart, External Evaluator of SouthMed CV from Palestine, will share with the audience the conclusions on this project that has also fostered cross-border collaboration, networking and peer-to-peer exchanges among cultural operators from the targeted countries through capacity-building and mobility sessions.
A Press Conference will be held in the morning of 10 April, before the main event, in order to present the SouthMed CV project to the media.
