The Cultural Sector's Reaction to the Approval of the New EU Budget

On 7 and 8 February, a decisive summit for the EU budget in the next seven years was held in Brussels. The agreement among the governments of the 27 EU Member States allocates EUR 960,000 million to the EU budget between 2014 and 2020, a figure below that of the previous period. Culture Action Europe (CAE), a platform which represents over 100 cultural organisations and artists in Europe, reacted rapidly and expressed its disappointment with the amounts allocated to the areas which affect the cultural sector by releasing a statement. CAE encourages all European citizens to mobilise themselves so that in the next stage of the approval of budgets in the European Parliament the situation can be modified.
